Gerald's Game Ending: Book Vs. Movie Spoilers - Thrillist.

Gerald’s Game is a short and semi-effective Stephen King film that feels like it could have been slightly bigger and better. The source material is both a problem and a blessing (it isn’t King’s most dynamic book), but it does have an interesting lead. This lead character gets a little buried by time and the attempt to bring it to film.Gerald’s Game certainly isn’t boring though, even if Jessie is wearing the bonds of kinky love for the vast majority of the book. As the story progresses the reader is privy to Jessie’s thoughts and gets to know her a little better and she does some soul-searching and gets to know herself a little better as well.Gerald's Game is an absolutely claustrophobic suspense book. It makes Misery seem epic in comparison. It's almost like King challenged himself to write a book, the entirety of which takes place in a small room and the main character's head. Not only does he succeed, he manages to turn the tale into a real nail-biter. It also includes the scariest single scene I've read in any of Stephen King's.

While this is one of the best-written stories King has ever published, it will offend many through sheer bad taste. Jessie and Gerald Burlingame have been married for 20 years. Kinky sex is Gerald's g.When her husband’s sex game goes wrong, Jessie (who is handcuffed to a bed in a remote lake house) faces warped visions, dark secrets and a dire choice. Tagline: Some games you play. Some you survive.

Mike Flanagan reportedly carried around a copy of “Gerald’s Game” to meetings because it was the Stephen King book he dreamed of adapting since he was a teenager. This is arguably a sign of insanity. Not only is it considered one of King’s lesser works, but it takes place almost entirely in inner monologue and memory, with its only major character handcuffed to a bed.

The regularity in which Stephen King writes 3 plus, 4 and 5 star books is staggering. What surprised me with Gerald's Game is after all these years Mr.King chose this book to spit in the face of horror. This book commences with a solid, voyeuristic 4 star plot. We move into the middle of the book like a hungry dog looking for it's next meal.

Gerald’s Game. When Jesse (Carla Gugino) and Gerald (Bruce Greenwood) take off to their cottage in the woods they are going there in an attempt to rekindle their seemingly failing marriage. Things seem almost perfect as they arrive at the idyllic location and they move pretty swiftly into the bedroom and Jesse finds herself handcuffed to the sturdy looking bed. Gerald is about to start.

I am what King may describe as a 'Constant Reader' of his work, and I have to say I would put 'Gerald's Game' as one of his best or one of my favourites. What I love about this book is (and what I love about many of his books) is the characterisation of the main character, Jessie.

The message of confronting one’s fears engulfs you until the end, and without it, Gerald’s Game would have just been another scary movie. All in all, it is a symphony of suspense and scares, and spiked with the perfect morality tale. Gerald’s Game shows that even in the genre of horror, these important themes can still be present.
