The Standing Rock Reservation is located in North and South Dakota and is home to approximately 8,500 members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. As of this morning, there have been 536 confirmed positive cases and six deaths overall in South Dakota, according to the state’s health department.Standing Rock Reservation takes its name from a natural formation that resembles a woman with a child on her back. Today, this sacred stone stands on a monument outside the Standing Rock Agency's office in Fort Yates, North Dakota. The reservation is home to two bands of the Lakota Nation: the Sihasapa (or Blackfoot) and the Hunkpapa (or Campers at the Horn). The Dakota people of Standing Rock.Mark K. Tilsen is an Oglala Lakota Poet Educator from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. At Standing Rock he stepped into the role of a direct action trainer and police liaison. Since then he has led trainings and teach ins about the lessons learned from Standing Rock. He recently spent six months at L’eau est La Vie Camp helping fight against the Bayou Bridge Pipeline which is the tail end.
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe established various industries for the Tribe on the reservation and plans to develop more enterprises. In the area of economic development the Tribe currently operates the Prairie Knights Casino and Lodge and Prairie Knights Quik Mart, Grand River Casino, Standing Rock Farms, and Standing Rock Sand and Gravel.Mobridge is located on the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, and several recreation areas (Lake Hiddenwood, Indian Creek, and Swan Creek) are nearby.
